Don't come here if you're on a diet!
I heard about this place through friends/seeing it on Yelp, and I decided to try it on a whim. I made a reservation on Yelp, and I came here on Thursday night. The restaurant was actually quite busy for a weekday dinner. It took me about 10-15 minutes to be seated, even though I did have a reservation. You can choose to sit inside or outside the restaurant.
I ordered the mushroom fries (5/5), shrimp taquitos (3/5), blue crab beignets (5/5), bone marrow mac n cheese (5/5), and duck confit noodles (5/5). The mushroom fries were crispy and crunchy and had a nice texture and bite due to the breadcrumbs. The fries didn't feel greasy at all which I liked, and it paired really well with the 2 dipping sauces. The shrimp taquitos were good but nothing too special. The taquitos were crunchy, and the shrimp paste was good. However, it lacked any elevation to the dish because the aji verde didn't have any bold flavors/wasn't seasoned enough. The blue crab beignets were so delicious - especially when it was hot and fresh out of the fryer. They stuffed a generous amount of blue crab in the beignets, and the chipotle aioli was delicious and really tied the whole dish together. The bone marrow mac n cheese was definitely interesting yet tasty at the same time. The bone marrow had bacon jam on top which made the dish sweet but savory when mixed in with the mac n cheese. It definitely was an interesting take on mac n cheese, but all of the oils from the cheese, bone marrow, and oil or butter used to cook the mac n cheese, definitely made this dish heavy. However, it was still a great dish. The duck confit noodles were probably my favorite dish. The duck leg was so tender and pulled apart so easily, while the skin was crispy and seared to perfection. The garlic noodles had a great texture and weren't too starchy. They also sprinkled fried garlic onto the dish which gave a nice crunch and flavor to the noodles. The whole dish was executed very well - but it was still kind of oily. The service here was really great and our waitress was really nice. I loved how all the food came out as they were ready so it wasn't sitting around (cold food is my pet peeve!).
My overall experience was amazing - food and service were both really great. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone! -

We went on a Friday night. It was not busy, lots of tables available.
The shareable kind of tapas plates is a great idea.
We enjoyed the experience, but it's kinda pricey.
The drink presentation was great, and the drinks were good.
The service was amazing!!!
The food was hit and miss.
The portobello fries and the Buffalo Cauliflower were both great!
The Brussels were greasy.
The cheesy corn was good, but strange. It had the corn silk in it.
The chicken wings were OK.
The chicken sandwich was really good.
The bone marrow mac n cheese was split, the Mac n cheese was great, the bone marrow was OK.
We would go back to try some of the other dishes and cocktails. -

Nice restaurant. I don't know if I missed it in the description but this is a family style dining experience. The food was good enough but super small portions for "family style"
Drinks are nothing amazing for the price. This is more of an Instagram-able place than an enjoyable foodie experience. -

Four stars because it was ICE COLD in the restaurant. It's a tiki bar (well themed night) it's supposed to be warm and inviting but it was literally bone chilling and they had quite a powerful AC unit.
Either way, the food is bomb! My friend had the buffalo cauliflower dish and it was incredible. Now I'm a Man, and men don't eat greens with no meat, but this was definitely something I'd come back for. If they added some chicken to it that would be a home run dish. I went for the brisket tostada something. It was good but messy and hard to eat.
Would be back as the drinks looked bomb -

I really enjoyed Recess Room. The food and drinks were very flavorful but the star of the night was the bone marrow Mac n cheese ($18) which was delicious. The bacon jam topping blends perfectly was the various cheeses and I couldn't get enough of it. Other noteworthy food items were the blue crab beignets ($16) and the shrimp taquitos ($9). Can't wait to come back and try some of the other tapas. I was a little disappointed in the dessert, but overall I'd definitely recommend checking this place out.
